Firearms Range and Training Facility

 Range Rules

 

All members and their guests are required to abide by and enforce these rules. Members are expected to politely point out, to any person in violation of these rules; the nature of the violation, request they stop and if continued violation occurs, report the incident along with the violators name to a CCLEO Association Officer. (Contact information posted of the Front Door of the building and on the bulletin board inside.)

Individuals using the Range shall become familiar with the range safety rules and procedures prior to using the range!

GUN SAFETY RULES:  THESE RULES SHALL BE FOLLOWED AT ALL TIMES

Four Fundamental Rules for Safe Gun Handling

  1. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.

  2. Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.

  3. Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.

  4. Always treat a firearm as if it were loaded.

Rules for Using or Storing a Gun

  1. Know your target and what is beyond it.

  2. Be sure the gun is safe to operate.

  3. Know how to use the gun safely.

  4. Use only the correct ammunition for your gun.

  5. Wear eye and ear protection as appropriate.

  6. Never use ALCOHOL or DRUGS before or while shooting.

  7. Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons.

  8. Be aware that certain types of guns and many shooting activities require additional safety precautions.

RANGE USAGE 

Hours of Operation: Monday through Saturday 8:00 AM until 10:00PM and Sunday 1:00 PM until 10:00 PM  

All Scheduled use of the CCLEO Range shall take precedence over any individual or personal activity. 

  1. All vehicles shall be parked in the designated parking area.
  2. Range is to be used as posted outside and inside the Building and as stated in this document and The CCLEO Policies and Rules for usage. If you don’t have a copy; ask for one from any officer of the CCLEO Association.
  3. Authorized and trained Range Safety Officers shall have full authority over all shooting activities conducted at the firearms range.(when applicable)

Before Use 

  1. Place the “Live Firing Range” sign, at the entrance to the CCLEO premises parking lot, facing the driveway for arriving members to see. Also, take the Red flag out and display
  2. Inspect range for hazards (including children & animals) prior to use.All range users are personally responsible for Range safety and safe shooting.
  3. Abuse of Range safety rules and safe shooting rules will result in loss of privileges of the Range and/or CCLEO membership.
  4. There will be NO illegal activities on the Chatham County Law Enforcement Officers Association premises.
  5. All shooters are responsible to immediately correct any unsafe conditions. If you observe an unsafe condition that you are unable to correct, report it immediately to an Association Officer (#s posted on the doors &/or bulletin board inside- these #s are not to be removed!)
  6. Pets, other than service animals, are NOT allowed on the shooting range unless they are contained in the owner’s vehicle. All animals must be under control of owners at all times while on the premises and the owner/member is responsible for disposition of any signs that the pet was there.

General Safety Rules 

  1. It is the responsibility of all Range users to know and obey all Range rules.

Before using the range for the first time, all users MUST read the range rules and sign an acknowledgement that they have read the Range rules and agree to abide by the rules. This is usually done at a regularly scheduled CCLEO Meeting.

  1. Know where others are at all times.
  2. Shoot only at authorized targets. No shooting at unauthorized targets (i.e. cans, bottles, boxes) You can bring your own targets, clips and stapler w/staples but CCLEO will have some on hand; while our supply lasts, for members only. CCLEO does supply cardboards.
  3. Do NOT handle a firearm or stand at the firing line while others are down range.
  4. When others are down range, ALL shooters must step away from the firing line.
  5. Stop shooting immediately upon the command of “Cease Firing”.
  6. All firearms on the firing line shall be handled in a safe manner.
  7. Keep the muzzle direction down range at all times.
  8. Keep finger off the trigger until ready to fire.
  9. Keep all firearms unloaded and all actions open until on the firing line and ready to fire or when holstering the firearm.
  10. Any firearms requiring maintenance shall be removed from the firing line to a designated safety area, ONLY AFTER it has been cleared of all ammunition.
  11. Shooters are required to pick up all targets used and all spent casings when the shooting session is over. Failure to retrieve such ammunition casings shall be considered littering and subject the violator/member to loss of their shooting privileges and/or CCLEO membership.
  12. Everyone within close proximity to an active firing line MUST wear eye and ear protection at ALL times. Spectators are also required to wear ear and eye protection on the firing line.
  13. Prior to leaving the firing line, the shooter must unload and make their firearm safe.
  14. Obey all commands from Range Safety Officer, staff/attendant or law enforcement agency representative.
  15. All Range users are personally responsible for Range safety and safe shooting.
  16. NO ALCOHOL or DRUGS are ALLOWED on the FIREARMS RANGE!

 After Use 

  1. Shooters/Members must clean their area after each use.
  2. Remove live or dud ammo from the range. Police your areas after firing by placing ALL trash, spent casings (brass), shells, boxes, paper targets, etc. in the appropriate containers provided and remove all trash from the premises.
  3. Keep Our Range and Building areas CLEAN!
  4. Secure all range equipment. Cardboards are to be put back inside the Building on the Target Stations.
  5. Turn the “Live Firing Range” sign to face the Building and return the Red Flag to its container.

Specific Range Rules 

  1. All shooting will be in authorized areas ONLY.
  2. RESPECT other CCLEO members (& guests) and their equipment.
  3. CCLEO will have targets, clips, stapler w/staples available to our members only, as supplies last. We DO supply the cardboards.
  1. A safety briefing will be given to all groups, organizations, clubs, etc. before any shooting takes place.
  1. Member/Adult supervision is required for all shooters under 18 years of age and any non-member/guest. Shooters under age 18 &/or any non-member/guest MUST be accompanied by a CCLEO member and a parent, guardian or adult designated by the parent or guardian.
  1. Harassment will NOT be tolerated by ANYONE at the Chatham County Law Enforcement Officers Association Range or anywhere on the CCLEO premises.
  1. ALL violators are subject to immediate expulsion from the CCLEO premises and/or loss of any future use of the Building/Range areas and/or loss of membership.

Emergency 

  1. Emergency Rules are created to minimize confusion and save time responding during an Emergency.
  2. Personal Injury: CALL 911 to secure aid. Return to the injured person and do what you can to help. Post a person, if available, at the Range entrance to direct emergency vehicles. Take written notes from all witnesses.
  3. FIRE: CALL 911, and then clear the area. Post a person, if available, at the Range entrance to direct emergency vehicles.
  4. The range location is 410 Rives Chapel Church Road, Siler City, NC 27344.
  5. ALL emergencies MUST be reported to the Chatham County Law Enforcement Officers Association President
